Hmmm, I'm not sure about this one. It's some sort of Peugeot hatchback thing but I'm almost getting sort of minivan vibes from it. Like whatever the C Max was. Yeah, that.

It’s a 208 Like (a base-model with white accents) with a 1.2 turbo of 68bhp, it’s the same as this :

It was also available in a nice blue :

That blue is nice. I’m not sold on the silvery white plastic trim around the grille but it also isn’t 2010 anymore so that probably once was a nice touch. It’s not bad looking.

Did any other manufacturers have C Max competitors? Because I don't really know what to call that class of vehicles.

It’s just painted white plastic, not silvery at all, it’s not totally my thing but i don’t hate it either (and keep in mind that it was a base model that was quite cheap, still way better than a white car with unpainted plastic ) .

The C-Max is a small monospace or MPV, there is/ was also the Renault Scenic, Citroën C4 Picasso , Peugeot 5008 I , VW Touran, ...

You have a list of those on the French Wikipedia page .

Is it white, or is it lavender? ;)

It’s a good way to spice up the front of a cheap car at least. I don’t love it but I’m fairly neutral and it doesn’t make the front look bare.

Ford briefly sold the C Max here (and never the other Max derivatives) and most of 20 or so they sold were livery or fleet vehicles. It’s rare indeed to spot a privately owned C Max in the wild.

Hehe, Kia Carens. I wonder who drives this car.

Forget the Sportwagen, give me a Sportsvan! It’s like a really chonky Golf!

Almost all t hese MPVs have now been replaced by crossovers. The principle is kind of the same; a taller more comfortable hatchback with more upright space. The crossovers have sacrificed some practicality for offroad optics .

The 208 is a regular Fiesta competitor though. It is not tall.

Yes, I can see. I just thought it was taller at first and mistook it for a 5008.

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah I don’t know how I could have mistook them either.

It’s white, don’t worry about it, i have no doubt this time.

One of my brothers have a Peugeot 5 008 (first gen) like this one :

Another one has a Grand Scenic (2nd gen) like this one :

And he previously had a C4 Picasso like that :

They seem like useful little workhorses. Clearly your family likes to drive domestic and meanwhile you’re out here with two Audis.

They don’t care much that it’s domestic or not, it’s mainly that those car are attractive to them as they have kids (both have 3) and want something practical and comfy to drive while not being too expensive.

And the (used) market is dominated by local cars, usually the 10 best selling cars are either from French manufacturers or made in France (or a Dacia) .

And i would prefer a proper French hot hatch but they are more expensive than a project car Audi :)

That makes sense. Parts, repairs, and expertise are usually easier to come by in a vehicle’s home country. It’s just usually easier to own a car in a country where it was developed, produced, and sold very well. So domestic is often easier.

They are also usually thought out for the French market, meaning that they should not be looking too bland or generic and try to be practical and comfy while still maintaining a good chassis.

Indeed. Are your roads really that bad that French cars are characterized as having wallowy soft suspension for a reason?

It’s the American cars that are known to have soft suspensions !

Citroën was usually soft but with great capabilities a s well (especially when they had hydro pneumatic suspensions) , they are now marketed as a comfort brand but they are still based on good chassis so it’s not a bad compromise if it’s what you are after .

Renaults and Peugeots will usually be more entertaining while not necessarily harder (and with more comfy seats)   than the usual VW  equivalent.

T he average French road is not too badly maintained but it’s also windy and with many roundabouts and speed bumps so having a good chassis that is not sacrificing handling for comfort is important :)

Yeah, soft suspension with body roll but competent handling/chassis dynamics.

Most American cars I have been in have been very comfort focused but less in a comfortable city runabout way and more in an open road cruiser way.

Not all are in the spirit of the Buick Park Avenue (tons of power, tons of softness, silky smooth powerband, but not entirely terrible on the handling department) but quite a few cars still cater to this market in a slightly different form than the boaty sedan.

Kinja'd!!!

There are so many different ways that a car can feel comfortable. It can be utterly devoid of any road feedback in a very sophisticated technology focused way like a previous gen Honda Civic.

Kinja'd!!!

You can have an intoxicatingly large amount of forward mass propelling you through the air like an F150.

Kinja'd!!!

You can have a huge amount of soft material cushioning the slightest vibration like the land yachts of yore that feels like a luxurious comfort.

And many combinations of those traits in between.
